What is Mustang RTR?

RTR was created by the professional fun-haver Vaughn Gittin Jr. Vaughn started his professional drifting career back in 2004. In 2005, when the new S197 chassis was released, he started to compete in a Ford Mustang.

The origins of drifting can be traced back to Japan. Most vehicles used in professional drifting are imports. After competing for a few years, in the Mustang chassis, Vaughn noticed a lack of styling options available for the Ford Mustang. An idea stemmed from this and RTR was born.

The idea was to bring American muscle and European inspired styling to the Mustang community.

RTR stands for Ready to Rock, to us, that means ready for anything! We take a very tactical approach to designing and engineering all the RTR parts. This ensures our spec vehicles and parts are ready for whatever fun our owners could throw at it.

Since 2010, RTR Mustangs and now F-150’s have been created from Vaughn’s experience behind the wheel and passion for the Ford brand. RTR likes to use the slogan, “Available to all, not for everyone.”

It is a compliment to the lifestyle of those that do not fit into the standard box and their customers traditionally are not the standard Mustang customer.

Whether you are hitting the drag strip, enjoying a track day at your favorite road course, doing some drifting or just cruising the streets with your better half, the Mustang RTR will offer an incredible driving experience and head turning modern aggressive styling!

All the deets about the RTR Series 1 Mustang

The RTR Series 1 is a collaboration between RTR Vehicles and Ford Performance. These serialized vehicles receive RTR’s signature design package with Ford Performance’s handling and optional power.

The Series 1 comes decked out with RTR’s aggressively styled appearance parts, including the un-mistakable RTR Grille with intergraded LED lighting. Additionally, the Series 1 receives the RTR chin splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser, and the Performance Pack only RTR Gurney Flap. All these components set the Series 1 Mustang apart from the rest of the herd of ponies.

The Series 1 kits are offered globally through authorized Ford dealers. RTR Series 1 kits are installed at your authorized Ford dealer and all Series 1 components come with factory backed warranty.

This is probably my favorite angle of the RTR Series 1 Mustang. One thing I have noticed throughout the years of the RTR Mustangs is the consistent fluidity of the exterior components. For example, look at how the front splitter, side splitters and rear splitters all flow together. As you look from the front to back, of the Mustang, your eyes continue to follow the same line. I absolutely love that!

The Series 1 Mustang I test drove and photographed was equipped with the Performance Package 1 option. That means it came equipped with the RTR Gurney Flap! Staggered wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Tires, were also included to help plant all of that power  the optional 700+ Ford Performance supercharger produces.

Limited to just 500 vehicles, it’s safe to say you won’t see many RTR Series 1 Mustangs out on the streets. Each vehicle gets their own serialized badges and sill plates. On the interior, you can find the door sill plates which also illuminate which I thought was a super cool feature. A dash plaque can also be found on the passenger side. Pop the hood and you will see a serialized badge on the radiator cover.

While I was driving the RTR Series 1 Mustang for a couple days around Charlotte, I actually had a few Mustang guys ask about the spoiler. I personally like the spoiler and thought at first it may cause some issues as far as visibility goes when looking out of the rearview and side mirrors. When I was driving around town I didn’t notice any issues with visibility.

Installation seems pretty straight forward if you wanted to add the RTR Gurney Flap to your PP1 equipped Ford Mustang GT. It’s a subtle styling cue that really accents the Performance Package 1 spoiler nicely. Well done Vaughn and RTR design team!
