Ponies in the Smokies 2018
2018 marks the second year that the Ponies in the Smokies event has taken place in Sevierville, TN. PITS offers Mustang owners and enthusiasts four days of activities in the Great Smoky Mountains. These events include a kick off party, shine run, car show and cruise in. We didn’t get to the PITS event until Thursday afternoon so we were only around for the car show and cruise in. Continue reading to check out our event coverage from the car show on Friday.
The Car Show
Friday morning we got up around 6:45 am to load up our ROUSH inspired S550 at the Mustang Owner’s Museum booth inside the convention center. After we loaded up, we got a chance to take a peek at “The 55” display, which consisted of 55 Mustangs from each year it has been produced. Also inside the convention center was a Saleen display and SVT / Ford Performance display along with the vendors. Aside from the displays inside the convention center, there were dueling dynos outside, food and a parking lot full of show ready Mustangs.
We ventured outside and braved the cold along with many other fellow Mustang enthusiasts as they cleaned up their rides preparing to be judged. Mustangs slowly started to trickle in as the day went on. Over 600 Mustangs had registered for the event doubling the size of last years event.
I heard a lot of people trying to compare the PITS show to Mustang Week. The vibe I got from the event wasn’t like Mustang Week at all. I have been going to Mustang Week since 2010. I feel MW attracts a younger demographic, like myself. PITS was more relaxed and had more of the “car show” type crowd. Since I am heavily involved with social media, I enjoy walking around interacting with the people and cars I see floating around on social. I felt like there wasn’t much of that for me at PITS. Regardless, it was great to meet all of the wonderful people I haven’t had the chance to meet in person and check out their Mustangs.
This event has great potential and we are excited to see how it continues to grow throughout the years. The convention center has plenty of room to grow into and the Pigeon Forge / Gatlinburg area has tons of things to do in the area to make this an easy decision for Mustang owners to add this to their event calendar each year. Side note: (I’m not bashing either event, just making an observation as to how we perceived them.)
Enough talking, we are going to drop all the images we shot during the event. Feel free to save and share these on your social media channels. We ask you just tag @mustangfanclub and use #mustangfanclub on your images. We hope you enjoy!

#PITS Graffiti Wall
If you attended Ponies in the Smokies you most likely snapped a pic of your Mustang in front of the graffiti wall by Quaker Steak and Lube. Below are a few attendees we reached out to on the Facebook group and wanted to share some of their photographs with you all.
